Biography
April D. McCoy has extensive experience as a Family Law attorney, practicing in the areas of divorce, parentage, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, and domestic violence restraining orders. Throughout her career, April has maintained a commitment to providing compassionate and effective counsel to those going through the Family Law process.
Before coming to Silicon Valley Law Offices, Ms. McCoy operated a private practice. To complement her litigation background, she enrolled in and completed two intensive mediation trainings: Essentials of Mediation and Divorce Mediation (Northern California Mediation Center) and Basic Mediation Course (Santa Clara County Dispute Resolution Program). Ms. McCoy endeavors to help her clients reach mutually agreeable settlements when it is possible to do so, as she understands this saves both parties time, stress, and financial resources that would otherwise be strained during a protracted legal battle.
Ms. McCoy graduated from the Santa Clara University School of Law. While completing her law degree, Ms. McCoy was able to gain experience as a Judicial and Clinical intern for the Santa Clara County Superior Court, Family Division. She was also able to intern for the City of San Jose at the City Attorney’s Office, where she appeared as a Bar Certified Law Student in criminal court cases. In addition, she had experience as a student intern with the Northern California Innocence Project, where she investigated post-conviction claims of innocence.
In 2006-2007, Ms. McCoy was given the Pro Bono Award, as well as a Certificate in Public Interest and Social Justice, which she was awarded for her commitment to public service as a student of law. She also participated in the 2006 Geneva/Strasbourg Program in Public International Law and International Human Rights. Beyond her public service, Ms. McCoy was an Honors Moot Court national competitor in the 2007 ABA Appellate Advocacy Competition in New York City.
Ms. McCoy’s commitment to and passion for serving the interests of the public shines through in her advocacy for her clients.
